Tourists stranded as tour operators block poor roads

Hundreds of tourists were stranded Friday morning and transport paralyzed along the Narok-Maasai Mara road as tour operators protested the poor state of the road network.

The operators downed tools and blocked access roads to make their point heard.

The operators complain that they continue to incur huge losses through constant repairs for their cars despite paying taxes to the County Government of Narok.

Police intervened to clear the road before normal traffic flow could resume and arrested several protesters.

The tour drivers later stormed the police station where their colleagues were being held to demand for their immediate release.

Several tour vans blocked access to the police station protesting the arrests.
