Tragedy as girl, 13, swept by River Sagana

A 13-year-old girl is feared dead after she slipped and fell into River Sagana on Sunday evening in Mwea-West, Kirinyaga County.

According to one her relatives, Edward Mugo, over 23 families from Kaitheri Estate in Kerugoya had a gathering at a local hotel near the river when the incident happened.

“We had attended a family gathering at the Sagana Grand River camp, but as the children were playing near the river, one of them slipped and fell into the river,” he said.

The girl’s parents were informed of the unfortunate incident by her friends after they failed to find her as the river had swept her away.

“We were informed of the incident but she is yet to be found,” added Mugo.

Residents living near the river working with family members and police officers from the Sagana Police Station are now searching the body of class 8 pupil.

“The police officers told us that they can’t help us until they get divers,” he said.
