Trans Nzoia teachers accused of corporal punishment

Teachers in Trans-Nzoia County have been accused of promoting child labour and subjecting pupils to outlawed corporal punishment during learning hours.

At Mukuyuni Primary School in Kwanza Constituency, pupils were allegedly compelled to weed the institution’s maize farm during learning period as punishment for reporting to school late.

Parents interviewed lamented against the teachers’ action and urged the government to tame the corporal punishment and child labour in some schools in the area since it was major hindrance to education in the area.

The County department of education has promised to conduct an independent investigation on the matter and take necessary action against teachers found culpable.
