Trump: Call me Mr Brexit

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump drew comparisons between the U.S. election and the U.K. Brexit vote as he accused rival Hillary Clinton of stereotyping his supporters, on Thursday (August 25).

“When Democratic policies fail, they are left with only this one tired argument. You’re racist. You’re racist. You’re racist,” Trump, said at a speech in Manchester, New Hampshire.

He made his remarks shortly before Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee was to deliver a speech addressing his campaign’s recent shift to the right. Presidential nominees from the U.S.’s two major political parties typically spend the post-primary season, focusing on more centrist, undecided voters.

Trump accused Clinton of stereotyping his supporters as racists in an attempt to distract them from their concerns about security.

“These are the same tactics the establishment powers used to try to scare the British people out of voting for change. So, it didn’t work there and it’s not going to work here. Call me Mr. Brexit. The American people are ready to vote for freedom, opportunity and justice. They are ready to take back control of their own futures,” Trump said.

Trump on Wednesday (August 24) was joined on the campaign trail by Nigel Farage, a key figure in the successful campaign to get Britain out of the European Union.

He also reiterated his pledge to build a wall on the U.S. border with Mexico and dismissed speculation that he was contemplating a different stance.

“We will build the wall 100 percent and Mexico will be paying for the wall,” Trump said.

Trump has polled poorly with minorities and has been heavily criticized for his proposals on immigration, which include deporting millions of undocumented foreigners, building a wall along the Mexican border, and suspending Muslim immigration to shore up national security.
