Two killed as youth attack watermelon farm workers in Pokot

Police in Marakwet East are holding a man suspected of killing two people at Kolowa area on the Pokot-Elgeyo Marakwet border.

Area police boss Emmanuel Rono says the suspect was arrested following an operation.

The man is accused of leading a group of youth to ambush watermelon farm workers attacking them with crude weapons.

Kolowa area Chief, Stephen Domorita, said two of the workers died on the spot and several others severely injured.

Rift Valley Regional Coordinator Wanyama Musiambo cautioned the two communities against retaliation, saying they should instead embrace peaceful co-existence.
