Two women convicted after plucking black-jack for rabbits at Embu farm

Two middle-aged women will serve two-months non-custodial sentences after they were found guilty of trespassing into a shamba and picking black-jack (a local weed) to feed rabbits at Kathangari village in Embu north.

45-year-old Faith Muthoni and Purity Wambogo aged 42 appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Tony Kwambai and pleaded guilty to the offence .

The two were charged on 29 June 2020 at Kathangari Village in Embu for trespassing into the Frankenstein farm where they picked the weed without the owner’s permission.

The prosecution produced the black-jack before the court as evidence that the two had truly entered the said farm.

In their defence, the two told the court that they only picked the black-jack to feed their rabbits.

They were found in act by a farm manager who then reported the matter to the Manyatta police station.

The two were then arrested and arraigned in court.

They pleaded for leniency from the court saying that they were not intending to cause any harm to anyone other than feeding their starving rabbits.

The Magistrate ordered that the two serve 2-months non-custodial sentences and ordered them to stay out of trouble lest they finish the sentences in jail.
