Nairobi Police Boss Japheth Koome says police have launched an investigation into Congolese artist Koffi Olomide’s Friday morning altercation at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

Olomide was filmed attacking one of his female dancers at the airport – an incident that lead to his arrest at Royal Media Services following a live TV interview where he denied attacking his dancer.

Speaking to Citizen Digital via phone, Koome confirmed that Olomide is still being held at the JKIA police station, where he spent the night.

Gender Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki has called for the immediate deportation of the Congolese artist, saying that his actions were both unacceptable and unconstitutional.

“Today Kenyans witnessed with dismay an assault incident at the JKIA by renowned artist Koffi Olomide against one of his female dancers. His conduct is an insult to Kenyans and flies in the face of our Constitution and what we believe in,” read the statement.

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet condemned the musician’s action, ordering for his arrest.
