What I will remember most about Mama Lucy Kibaki  Raila Odinga

CORD leader Raila Odinga has paid glowing attribute to the late former First Lady Mama Lucy Kibaki following her demise at a London hospital on Tuesday morning .

In a note to President Mwai Kibaki, Raila said he would remember the late former First Lady Mama Lucy Kibaki as an honest, frank and principled woman who had a firm stand on matters of national and public interest.

Raila said he only had fond memories of Mama Lucy owing to her contribution in making their working relationship  during the first administration and the Grand Coalition easy and manageable.

“Mama Ida and I have received news of the passing of Mama Lucy with great pain. On behalf of our family, I wish to pass our deep condolences to you, your family children Judy, Jimmy, David and Anthony following this loss.”

“In her own way, she gave the position of First Lady a new and emphatic role. For her principled stand, Lucy was much misunderstood.”

The ODM leader further noted his family, CORD coalition and ODM party would stand with Kibaki during these difficult times.

“You have our prayers and support that God grants you the strength to cope with the loss. We truly appreciate Lucy’s life and the guidance she was able to give to our nation,” he stated.

Mama Lucy was pronounced dead Tuesday morning while undergoing treatment at Bupa Cromwell Hospital in London.

CORD co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula have also sent their condolences to former President Kibaki and his family following the death of Mama Lucy.

Kalonzo stated: “Death has robbed us a great patriot, anti-HIV/AIDs campaigner and girl child education champion. My condolences to H.E. Kibaki.”

In his message, Wetangula described Mama Lucy as a key pillar in the coalition government which brought together Mwai Kibaki and Raila Odinga,

“Mama Lucy’s death has robbed Kenya a matriarch who created opportunities and opened doors without regard to social standing and race,” he said.

The Bungoma Senator offered his prayers to President Kibaki and his family during this challenging time.

On her part, Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua stated: “My condolences to H.E retired President Kibaki and his family on the passing on of Mama Lucy Kibaki . May she RIP.”

President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto, National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale and Deputy Majority Leader in the Senate Kipchumba Murkomen are among other top political leaders who have paid their tribute to the late Lucy Kibaki.
