Alice Aprot rules womens 10,000m at Kasarani
The 2015 All African Games champion Alice Aprot won the 10,000m women’s finals on day two of the National Athletics Championships at the Moi International Complex, Kasarani Friday afternoon.
Aprot grabbed the top honors for Kenya Prisons after clocking 31:40.99 as Jackline Chepng’eno of South Rift followed closely in a 31:58.37 clocking. Joyline Jepkosgei won a bronze medal for the Kenya Defense Forces team by clocking 32:35.82.
Commonwealth silver medallist and five-time Africa champion in Race walking Grace Wanjiru of Kenya Defense Forces led fellow soldiers in dominating the 20km finals.
Wanjiru took the honors after clocking 1:34.09 with Linda Waweru coming second at 1:41.52 and Esther Murugi third with a timing of 1:46.06.
“I have been training for Olympics since last year. I really want to make it. Though I had a flu and was a bit worried,” said Wanjiru.
Later in the afternoon, KDF men’s team won the 4x100m relay by clocking 39.57 seconds in a seemingly competitive race that saw the National Police Service(NPS) team come second at 40.29 seconds.
