Arsenal boss Wenger hints at striker purchase

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger hinted that the Gunners need to sign one more attacking player before the transfer window ends.

The Premier League giants beat an MLS All-Star team 2-1 in San Jose, and the Frenchman admitted with many players still unavailable after featuring at Euro 2016, he’s looking to sign one more player.

“At the moment I have not too many attacking options of experienced players but let’s not forget we still have a few players at home. A few players who didn’t play today like [Santi] Cazorla and of course we have Ozil, Ramsey at home and Giroud is not here. So we have options but we still look outside to find one more,” the Gunners boss said.

Wenger was pleased with the debut of new signing Granit Xhaka, and praised former Chelsea nemesis Didier Drogba who scored for the All-Star side in the first half.

“I believe it was just for us. We are in a very hard training program at the moment, so you never know how tired the players are when you go into the game. So it was good to see that they are already in a good shape because we had two hard days just before we played today in our training session and it was good to see that everybody absorbed it well.

“He (Xhaka) did adjust very well, his passing was clean and technically he did well. Overall I believe it’s the first game that is encouraging. Drogba is a typical poacher of a goal. He can do that in the box. When I see him in the box and fighting with young defenders I always think now there is danger there because he will get the upper hand and score you a goal and that’s what he did.”

Arsenal will remain in California ahead of a friendly against Liga MX side Guadalajara on Sunday.
