Arsenal sign son of legendary midfielder Robert Pires
Arsenal have signed the son of legendary midfielder Robert Pires, Theo Pires, the former player announced on Sunday.
In a post on Instagram, the former French international stated that his seven-year-old son had joined the north London club’s academy, raising the prospect of the young star featuring for the club his father once played for.
He posted: “That’s it! Theo signed for the Arsenal Academy!!! Well done son!!!! #proud.”
Pires joined Arsenal in 2000 from Marseille winning two premier league trophies, three FA Cups and two Community Shield cups.
His last match was in the 2006 Champions League final against Barcelona where he was substituted after goalkeeper Jens Lehmann was sent off 18 minutes into the match.
He was also part of the “Invisible” team that recorded a 49 matches unbeaten run in the 2003-04 season.
Internationally Pires featured 70 times between 1996 and 2004 for France winning both the 1998 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2000.
