Nairobi City Thunder men’s basketball team head coach Brad Ibs has rallied his charges to sustain the momentum exhibited in the Kenya National men’s Basketball Premier League so far, heading to the penultimate match of the regular season.

The league leaders are unbeaten and top of the table with 40 points from 20 matches, and will face University of Nairobi’s Terror on Sunday at Strathmore University grounds, Nairobi.

Despite enjoying the 100 percent winning streak in the league, Ibs has warned his players not to underestimate their opponents.

“I think coming out from a big win there is potential for a little bit of a let-down but it’s something we have talked about and worked on this week as we try to stay sharp and focused. Terror has given a couple of teams very close games in the last couple of weekends and therefore is a team we can’t afford to sleep on.

“We will be ready for Sunday's game and we look forward to carrying last weekend's winning momentum into our final two regular season matches as we hope to finish the regular season unbeaten as we turn our attention to the playoffs,” Ibs said.

Last weekend City Thunder clobbered defending champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) 82-57 before demolishing Kenyatta University’s Pirates 77-51 on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Elsewhere, Strathmore Blades head coach Tony Ochieng is pleased with his team’s improvement as they plan to take on fellow varsity side Africa Nazarene University’ s Wolfpacks on Saturday, in another men’s Premier League match at Strathmore University grounds, Nairobi.

“We are now grinding well and the team chemistry is cropping up well. We have improved on our field goal execution percentage and being a derby we want to win to cement our playoffs spot.

We are working on how to stop their ball handlers to force them to make decisions that will favour us. A win is our main focus and we need to build up from our last matches where we have improved a lot,” Ochieng said.

Blades, who have four games remaining in the regular season, have played 18 matches, winning eight matches and losing 10 and have so far 26 points.

The much anticipated KNBL match between Ulinzi Warriors and Equity Dumas that was set for today has been postponed indefinitely following the demise of the Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla.

The soldiers were to face the bankers in the Kenya National men's basketball league Friday night at Nyayo Gymnasium.

Ulinzi Warriors are currently third on the log with 30 points from 18 matches, winning 12 and losing six.

Ogolla and nine others died in a plane crash on Thursday.
