Curry confirms he will not play in Olympics

Golden State Warriors’ star Steph Curry has confirmed that he will not take part in this year’s Olympic Games for the USA.

In a statement, the point guard cited ‘several factors’ for his decision to miss Rio including ankle and knee injuries.

Curry stressed it was a ‘difficult decision’ as representing his country has been a ‘rewarding, educational and enjoyable’ experience.

The 28-year-old, who was named the NBA’s MVP for a second consecutive year in May, said his prime focus was now getting fit and ready for the 2016/17 season.

Curry’s Golden State Warriors lead the Cleveland Cavaliers 2-0 in the NBA finals – two games away from a second successive NBA Championship.
