Ex-Gor star Teargas Abondo signs for Ajax Cape town

Ajax Cape Town have confirmed the signing of former Gor Mahia midfielder Victor ‘Teargas’ Ali Abondo after they agreed on to a two-year-contract.

Abondo left Gor in January to undergo trials with the ABSA Premiership side and although the club did not officially confirm signing the player, it was believed that the two had agreed to a deal.

Depending on the approval of the 26-year-old’s work permit, Abondo could still make his debut appearance in the current season of the South African Premier Division.

Abondo becomes the fifth addition to Ajax Cape Town’s squad for the new Absa Premiership season, after Erick Chipeta put pen to paper a fortnight ago, while the club has also promoted three teenagers Masilake Phohlongo, Darren Johnson and Sirgio Kammies from the club’s prestigious youth academy.

“It’s a good feeling to finally sign for Ajax Cape Town. This is what I’ve always dreamt of. I consider Ajax as one of the best club’s in the PSL,” Abondo said.

“Even in Kenya, people know Ajax Cape Town and rate the club highly. I will work hard to make my stay here successful. I’ve worked hard on my capabilities, so it’s time for me to take the next step in my career. For me, this is a big challenge and I will give it my all.”

The playmaker was instrumental in Gor Mahia’s 2015 Sportpesa Premier League (SPL) title win with his creativity and eye for goal.

The set-piece king has also won the domestic title on two other occasions with Sony Sugar and Tusker respectively.
