Four new faces as Ayimba names Squad for Dubai, Cape Town Sevens

Frank Wanyama, Jeffery Oluoch , Robert Aringo and  Nelson Oyoo  are the new faces of the Kenya rugby sevens team that will make their debut at the World Rugby Sevens series opener in Dubai and Cape Town.

Wanyama and Oluoch were part of the winning side that sealed Kenya’s place at the Olympic Games but will be featuring for the first time in the World Sevens series. Head Coach Benjamin Ayimba who named the squad on Friday morning has also included William Ambaka and Oscar Ouma two players who were plying their trade in South Africa and Sri Lanka respectively.

Robert Aringo who has been one of the key players in the Kenya fifteens set up will be one of the players to watch in Dubai and Cape Town.

“Aringo has always been knocking on the door; we (technical bench) have always wanted to include him in the squad. He is an exciting player,” Head coach Benjamin Ayimba said while naming the squad.

Captain Andrew Amonde will miss the first two legs due to a family loss with Collins Injera taking the armband in his absence. Kenya has a daunting task in the first leg in Dubai facing Australia, England and Wales. Benjamin Ayimba believes Kenya’s style of play will reign supreme.

“Kenya’s flair is back, we are playing with purpose, the players are more confident they can play with purpose” Ayimba said.

The Women’s head Coach Mike Shamiah also named his charges for the Dubai invitational tournament. Shamiah has made one new call up into the squad with Camilla Cynthia earning her stripes. The Dubai Sevens will take place on December 4th and 5th 2015.
