Giant killers Utithi eye East Africa qualification

Newly crowned Metropolitan football champions in boys’ category, Utithi Secondary School from Makueni County are well prepared to represent their region in the national championships slated at Kangaru High School in Embu, mid next month.

Head coach Bernard Mutiso is prepared to stun the big guns after shocking regional titans Laiser Hill from Kajiado and Highway Secondary from Kajiado with 1-0 defeats en-route to winning the title.

“I would like to promise the people to expect good results from us and we should be in a position to represent Kenya at the East Africa Games,” the bullish coach asserted.

His captain, Nicholas Muli echoed his sentiments.

“We are going there to fight. We can also qualify for East Africa, the teams that should go there are not cast in stone,” the skipper stressed.

They also became the first team from Makueni to reach the coveted stage of the schools competition.

In the girl’s category, Olympic School from Nairobi emerged winners after humiliating Matuu Memorial from Machakos county 5-1.

Syumile Secondary from Makueni scooped the Netball trophy after crushing their opponents Utithi 57-22 in the girls’ finals.
