IAAF suspends AK President Isaiah Kiplagat, two others over corruption

IAAF Ethics Commission has suspended Athletics Kenya President Isaiah Kiplagat, his vice president and a member of IAAF council member David Okeyo and former Treasurer Joseph Kinyua over corruption allegations.

In a statement, the Commission’s chair Michael Beloff said he had taken the decision “pursuant to powers conferred upon the Chairman by the IAAF Council on 26th November 2015.”

“Each individual is provisionally suspended from any office or position in either Athletics Kenya or the IAAF which each presently holds and is precluded from assuming any new office or position in either organisation for a period of 180 days starting November 30.”

The official are accused of subversion of the anti-doping control process in Kenya and improper diversion of funds received by Athletics Kenya from Nike.

The officials are set to be subjected to investigations of complaints leveled against them based on the evidence and information which has been received by the IAAF Ethics Commission.

Kiplagat is also accused of receiving a gift of two motor vehicles from Qatar Association of Athletics Federation between 2014-15.

The Ethics Commission has appointed former director of Public Prosecutions and the current chairman of the Judges and Magistrates Vetting Board Sharad Rao has been appointed to carry out investigations and determine disciplinary charges against the three.
