Jubilation as St. Anthonys Kitale lift trophy in Nzoia region school games

St. Antony’s Boys Kitale are Nzoia region Under-16 soccer champions after beating Ndivisi Boys 1-0 in an entertaining final held at Eregi TTC.

After a goalless first half, Tyson Kapchanga scored the winning goal in the 61st minute after receiving a well-connecting pass from Silas Okang’a.

Ndivisi then turned defensive but maintained their attack mode in an unsuccessful bid to neutralize the St. Antony’s lead. However, it was the latter who looked more likely to score than their opponents. They thrice tore the Ndivisi defensive line with Kapchanga and Captain Philip Mayaka becoming a constant menace to the runners up.

Despite beautiful footwork from Brian Wanjala, Ndivisi seamlessly looked beaten and withdrawal signs started showing off, perhaps an effect of fielding the same eleven players from the start to the end of the tourney for lack of eligible substitutes.

In the end, it was jubilation for St. Antony, with Mayaka asserting his team’s intention to perform well at the national level next month in the championships that will take place in Embu County.

“We had to play a clever game because they are physically stronger than us. It feels very nice to beat them to reach the finals,” Mayaka told Citizen Digital, adding that “from now on, it is preparation for the nationals because we know what kind of challenge it will be.”

In the girl’s category, Wiyeta Girls from Trans Nzoia emerged Champions, beating Butere Girls from Kakamega by a solitary second half goal in the final.

In handball, it was all Bungoma County as Moi Girls Kamusinga beat Mukumu Girls from Kakamega 32-12 to clinch the Nzoia Regional trophy for a record fourth consecutive year.

Mukuyu Girls from Kakamega clinched the netball title.

Over all, Bungoma County won the Regional Championships after scoring 50 points, only four points ahead of Kakamega and Trans Nzoia Counties who tied at 46. Vihiga and West Pokot Counties tied in fourth position.

The teams that won the regional championships will now be entrusted to represent the region in the national championships to be held in Embu between 12th-19th of June.
