Kenya drop 15 places in recent Fifa ranking

Kenya has dropped down 15 places from 116 to 131 in the latest Fifa ranking released on Friday.

The drop is attributed to Kenya’s 2-1 loss to Zambia in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier played last month at Nyayo Stadium.

Kenya’s fortunes may improve this month should they beat Mauritius, who are ranked 168 in the World Cup qualifier but now Kenya has been ranked 40th in Africa.

Following the win, Zambia have moved up three places up to 71 from 74 while Kenya’s rivals in the group Congo are placed 49th with Guinea Bisaau 147.

Algeria are the highest ranked Africa side in the ranking at position 19 followed by Africa champions Cote’ d’ Ivoire, who are ranked 21st and Ghana placed third on the continent and 25th worldwide.

World Cup losing finalists Argentina are ranked top with World Cup winners Germany second and Belgium third.

Portugal are fourth and Colombia fifth. Others in the top 10 are former world champions Spain, Brazil, Wales, Chile and England.

Elsewhere, Ulinzi Stars winger Kevin Amwayi has expressed his delight after being recalled to the national team Harambee Stars squad set to face Mauritius in the World Cup qualifier next Wednesday.

This is the third time for the former Western Stima and Tusker player to be called to the national team with his last call up having been 2012 after his move from Stima.

The Butere High School alumnus is eager to cement his place in the coach Bobby Williamson’s side.

“This is a great opportunity for me to grow as a player and I hope I can get playing time, it will be the best time for me and am prepared to work hard for it,” said Amwayi.

The Harambee stars squad is expected to travel to Mauritius this weekend for the first leg clash.
