Leicester fan who bet on winning title to buy house

A Leicester City supporter is ready to buy a house after he was one of a number of fans to back the club despite their 5,000/1 odds to become English champions.

In a nightmare for British bookmakers, the Foxes’ triumph will see them pay out up to €19 million from the most improbable title success, although some money will be recouped from failed bets on preseason favourites like Chelsea and the two Manchester clubs.

One supporter who won big was Levi Taylor, who scooped €33,000 for his three bets of Leicester City winning the Premier League, placing in the top four and finishing among the top six.

He now plans to use the money to set up himself and his girlfriend in a new house, as he is now able to pay the advance on a new home for them.

“It’s fantastic, this has changed our lives,” the 24-year-old told the Leicester Mercury. “I’ve managed to finish the payments on my car and book a holiday in Greece. Winning that much money thanks to your team becoming champions is a dream come true.

“As a couple, Adele [Giving] and I have a lot to thank Claudio Ranieri and the boys for.”

The achievement of Leicester winning their maiden top-flight title has also increased the value of the playing squad that was cobbled together for next to nothing compared to their Premier League rivals.
