AFC Leopards forward Victor Omune is confident that they will emerge victorious when they will take on Gor Mahia in the FKF-PL fixture dubbed Mashemeji derby on Sunday at Nyayo Stadium.

The highly anticipated second leg of the derby for the 2023/24 season highlights round 27 of the league, and Omune wants a balance having lost in the reverse fixture.

Gor Mahia secured a 2-0 victory over AFC Leopards at Kasarani Stadium in the first leg, which Ingwe hosted then under coach Tom Juma.

Omune however feels a lot has changed since the loss, and is fired up for the clash.

“We are very much ready for the match, morale is so high in the camp. In derbies there is pressure always, but it’s good for the players because everyone wants to play. During my first times in a derby like this I used to feel a bit nervous but nowadays I’m used to it.

“I always don’t like talking about our opponents, let’s just meet in the field and decide who takes home the bragging rights. This is our match, I’m confident we will win it,” a bullish Omune said.

Omune knows the importance of fans support in a derby, and wants them to play their part promising a good show.

“Fans always drives a team to win and we really need our fans in the stadium on Sunday. For those who didn’t make it in the last derby, please come and give us that extra push, you will be entertained.”

He added, “I’m looking forward to score on Sunday. It will be the best feeling ever. If I score it will be my fourth goal against Gor… that will come to pass.”

Heading into the derby, Gor Mahia sit comfortably at the top of the league with 54 points, while AFC Leopards are ranked 8th with 38 pints.

Ingwee have enjoyed a good form recently winning three out of their last 6 matches, drawing 2, and losing just one.

Since their first encounter on May 5, 1968, AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia have maintained a fierce rivalry.

Gor have won the Kenyan Premier League title 20 times while Ingwe have claimed it 12 titles.

The highly anticipated derby is scheduled to kick off at 3:00pm.
