Muhoroni thump Sofapaka out of KPL Top 8

Muhoroni Youth FC completely dominated Sofapaka FC to register a huge 3-0 win in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) Top 8 and sail through to the semi-finals in a match played at the Nyayo National Stadium on Monday.

Goals from Wellington Ochieng’, Wycliffe Ochomo and Moses Arita steered Muhoroni to a comfortable win as Batoto ba Mungu continued their shocking slump in form.

In-form striker Ochomo tormented Sofapaka’s backline all afternoon, threatening with his characteristic runs across the face of goal.

Sofapaka skipper Barnabas Tiema should have opened the scoring in the 21st minute but he squandered a clear-cut chance after Brian Nyakan had frozen a Muhoroni’s build up to slip him through only to blast his effort wide off the mark.

Muhoroni drew first blood six minutes into the second half when Ochieng’ nodded in an Abbas Akiyemi free-kick with Batoto ba Mungu unable to make any significant impact on the other end.

Muhoroni looked even sharper with the introduction of Sammy Ndung’u in the 65th minute, executing neat crosses into the path of Ochomo almost at will.

The free-scoring Ochomo – who tops the SportPesa Premier League (SPL) goal-scoring charts this season with nine goals already – was in the end of a fine Moses Arita cross to tap in a low strike past keeper Evariste Mutuyimana.

With the win all but guaranteed, Arita broke away from his own half outpacing two Sofapaka defenders and coolly slotting past Mutuyimana for the third.

The former Thika United ace led celebrations at the touchline as Batoto ba Mungu watched a bad season turn worse for them.
