Nakuru wards to share Ksh27.5M sports kitty

The County Government of Nakuru has allocated Ksh500,000 to Ngata FC in a bid to revive the club as a part of the local authority’s project to support sports in the region.

According to the County’s Sports Director, David Mwangi, the Government is set to allocate Ksh27.5 million to all its 55 wards with the funds aimed at acquiring and improving training facilities for various disciplines.

Nakuru is making football its priority and has swiftly moved to pull Ngata FC out of its financial crisis that has stalled the club’s progress for over a decade, with Club Chairman Philemon Langat confirming receiving the bail out.

“This is encouraging from the county. We’ve been conducting fund-raisers that have failed to hit our initial target so we are very happy now that this has been sorted,” Langat told Citizen Digital.

He added the team would remain an amateur side since they could still not afford to honour away fixtures or pay their players wages and will feature in friendly ties with smaller sides when the County league is on recess.

“For a long time, it’s been difficult drawing up a definite plan for the future of our club since we were fully aware our financial situation was always going to stifle it,” he added.

Mwangi declared the County will be holding a football talent search within the county to with selected candidates forming a formidable county team.

“We are sending out our officers to every ward so that they can conduct a needs assessment analysis. We need to know what each ward is lacking before we can start disbursing the funds,” he affirmed.

Nakuru All Stars is one of the county’s leading teams that has continually attracted a huge following their impressive performances in the National Super League (NSL).
