Uhuru celebrates Wanyamas Ksh1.480b Spurs move

President Uhuru Kenyatta has celebrated Harambee Stars captain, Victor Wanyama after his move to English Premier League giants, Tottenham Hotspur was confirmed on Thursday night.

“Congratulations @VictorWanyama for completing the move to @SpursOfficial from @SouthamptonFC. Kenya is proud of you,” Uhuru wrote on the President of Kenya Twitter handle.

Social media was awash with similar messages as the world digested the news that sees the Stars captain push his record as the most expensive Kenyan footballer in history.

Some of the posts on the micro blogging site were hilarious.

Quoting an earlier tweet from the midfielder, “I had spaghetti, it was very nice and I enjoyed it,” @BreatheSport quipped, “that tweet alone is worth 11 million pounds…#Wanyama”

Major British media outlets, BBC, Daily Mail, Independent, Telegraph and The Guardian led with the story angling it with the reunion between Wanyama and the manager who brought him across the border from Scotland, Mauricio Pochettino.

“Good news for Spurs (maybe not for Wanyama) Kenya have already been eliminated from the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. #THFC,” Michael Bridge, a Spurs fan tweeted in his handle @MichaelBridge_

“#SaintsFC can confirm @VictorWanyama has joined Tottenham Hotspur for an undisclosed fee. More here:” his former club tweeted confirming the deal citing an undisclosed deal.
