Apples cheapest MacBook is now over Ksh.103,000

The days of sub-thousand dollar MacBooks are over. The cost of entry to be a MacBook owner is now $1,099 (Ksh113,000).

Apple (AAPL) unveiled new MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro laptops on Tuesday, and got rid of its cheapest and smallest models.

The $999 (Ksh103,000) MacBook Air and 12-inch MacBook appear to have been removed from the Apple store, making the cheapest laptop the new MacBook Air which costs $1,099 (Ksh113,000).

The one exception is for college students, who can buy the new cheapest MacBook Air at a discount for $999 (Ksh103,000).

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The price increase is the latest example of Apple raising prices across its product lines, including its flagship iPhone.

The 13-inch MacBook Air and 12-inch MacBook were first released in 2015. The 12-inch MacBook was smaller and less powerful than the MacBook Pro line but more expensive than the Air line.

Apple may soon be making other changes to its laptop lines, according to rumors.

A new MacBook keyboard may feature sturdier, clickier keys that aren’t as susceptible to breaking or becoming useless from dust and grit, according to prominent Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of TF International Securities. He expects Apple will introduce the new keyboard later this year.
