Business:Tourism Board In Sh140m Bid To Revive Tourism
Speaking at the 2015 International Tourism Bourse (ITB) in Berlin, Germany, KTB managing director Muriithi Ndegwa said the campaigns will be undertaken both on print and electronic media platforms and will kick off from next month.
Ndegwa further added that KTB has allocated at least Sh15 million towards charter airline promotions and volume tour operators in order to increase tourist traffic to Kenya.
INSECURITY AND EBOLA
The countries targeted for the charter campaigns include Germany, France, Italy, Benelux, Scandinavia, the United Kingdom and the Czech Republic.
Ndegwa noted that insecurity and perceived Ebola threats have led to a sharp slump in tourist arrivals and earnings, with the coastal region bearing the brunt of the slowdown.
Last week, the tourism recovery task force handed over their report to the EAC, commerce and tourism cabinet secretary, Phyllis Kandie detailing on recovery efforts that the government should prioritize in order to revive the sector.
