Cane planters want foreigner to run Mumias Sugar

The Kenya Union of Sugar Plantation and Allied Workers is now asking the government to release the Ksh 1 billion bailout to Mumias Sugar Company to save it from its looming collapse.

Speaking to the media in Kisumu, the Union’s General Secretary Francis Wangara says the factory is under performing crushing at below 50 percent due to financial constraints.

Wangara says the issue is sensitive and told politicians to desist from making the issue a political tool at the expense of farmers whose future look bleak should the factory close down.

He further pointed out that the sugar company needs a sound management to take it back to its prime times.

The union is now recommending a foreigner to be hired to inject fresh ideas to the company noting that politics have always hindered the performance of home grown managers.
