Carrefour takes up space at Nakumatt’s defunct mega store

Carrefour supermarket chain will on Thursday officially launch operations at Nakumatt’s former mega-store along Uhuru Highway.

The Majid Al Futtaim Group owned retailer has from the shells of former retailer designed a new two-storey retail store which becomes the supermarket’s eighth store in Kenya.

“The opening of our new Carrefour store in Nairobi underscores our commitment to offering great customer experiences through high-quality retail outlets where customers can access quality products at the best prices,” said Carrefour Kenya country manager Franck Moreau.

Named after the former tenant, the new store has created in excess of 400 jobs including 250 employees and 200 par time workers as the retailer continues to expand on its footprint having first set up shop in the country in May of 2016.

The site of the latest branch holds the shell of Nakumatt-now defunct, prime branch which at its height generates sales of up to Ksh.1 billion a month.
