Diesel, Kerosene down as Petrol prices remain unchanged

Diesel and Kerosene have gone down in the monthly pump prices review by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).

In the new prices, the prices of Diesel went down by Ksh 3.36 per litre to trade at Ksh 79.99 in Nairobi while Kerosene goes down by Ksh 5.43 to retail at Ksh 52.55 per litre in Nairobi.

However, the prices of Super Petrol remain unchanged and will continue trading at Ksh 102.65 per litre.

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has announced new fuel prices effective September 14th to October 14th.

In the announcement, the prices of Super Petrol remain the same in Nairobi, Mombasa and Mandera to trade at Ksh 102.65, Ksh 99.32 and Ksh 116.46 respectively.

Diesel will now trade at Ksh 79.99 in Nairobi, Ksh 76.71 in Mombasa and Ksh 93.30 in Mandera and its environs.

The prices of Kerosene also went down significantly with every liter now trading at Ksh 5.43 less. In Nairobi, Kerosene will retail at Ksh 52.22 per liter, Ksh 49.84 in Mombasa while Mandera will register the highest prices at Ksh 66.36 per liter.

According to ERC Director General Joseph Ng’ang’a, the new prices took account of the 1.80% depreciation rate of the shilling against the dollar.

ERC further says that the average landed cost of imported Super Petrol went down by 4.44% from USD 727.97 in July to USD 695.68 in August this year.

On the other hand, the average landed cost of Diesel and Kerosene went down by 11.43% and 13.21% respectively to stand at USD 492.95 per ton for Diesel and USD 474.35 per ton for Kerosene.

ERC has warned oil traders against selling fuel beyond the recommended prices saying that any dealer found inflating the prices risks having their licenses withdrawn and paying a hefty fine.
