Dr Julis Muia appointed to steer Vision 2030 agenda

Dr Julius Muia has been appointed as the new Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat Director General for five year term.

The move ends the three year run the secretariat has operated without a substantive head following the exit of Mugo Kibati back in 2013.

Prof. Gituro Wainaina had held the post in an acting capacity but silently left the organization back in June.

Prior to his appointment, Dr Muia served as the secretary of the National Economic and Social Council, a government think tank charged with advising on social economic policies.

“He is one of the outstanding leaders in our country with a distinguished career in private and public service. He is not only a great scholar, but an experienced administrator and a gifted visionary with a reputation for representing great ideals,’’ Vision 2030 Delivery Board Chairman James Mwangi said of his appointment.

His appointment comes at a time Vision 2030 is struggling to position itself as the driver of economic change by meeting set out deadlines.

The country’s economic blue print aims at transforming Kenya into a newly-industrializing, globally competitive and middle-income country.

A number of key infrastructure projects such as the standard gauge railway and expansion of the port of Mombasa are encompassed in the economic master plan.
