EPRA seeks new Director General to replace Pavel Oimeke

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has moved to pick a new Director General following the resignation of Pavel Oimeke in March.

The energy sector regulator has advertised for the vacant post with the filling of applications by potential candidates set to close on May 12.

Pavel Oimeke resigned from the regulator’s top seat in early March amidst an ongoing probe into bribery allegations and has since switched to political interests as he runs for the vacant Bonchari Parliamentary seat.

Oimeke was arrested on December 10 by sleuths from the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) on allegations of soliciting a Ksh.200,000 bribe to re-open a petrol station in Oyugis town and was subsequently suspended by EPRA’s board.

Previously, Oimeke’s stay in office had been challenged in court with a petition citing his involvement in corruption and the wrongful dismissal of staff.

Daniel Kiptoo Bargoria has held ranks as EPRA’s Acting Director General since mid-December.
