Film makers gather in Nairobi for annual conference

In an era of  digital migration, the association of Broadcast Film and Music Professionals has brought together film makers, music performers, content producers and bloggers to promote local programmers.

This is just one of the goals that organizers of the upcoming BMFA Conference are seeking to achieve in a two day event set to kick off on Tuesday.

The Kenya Film Classification Board, which is supporting the conference, is focusing on promoting the production of more local content to create a positive impact on the film industry.

African Information Technology Exhibitions and Conferences (AITEC) Project Manager Hekta Patel said the BMFA forum is expected to discuss issues affecting the industry and explore ways of overcoming the challenges in the industry.

“Kenya not only has a really great relationship with not just local but international content creators since 1930’s. With regards to content in general when it comes to creators they look to Kenya on the beauty of Kenya. Lot of documentaries and short films get made in Kenya. The industry needs people to come and push for big feature to be done in Kenya,” said Ms Patel.

Ms Patel is seeking for venture capitalists to invest in the film and music industry arguing better technology will help in matching good content for quality production.

AITEC Project and Events Manager Carol Kariuki said the challenges film makers have is to create appealing content that will attract the consumers.

“We will have all people creating content to come together and show case what they have. We are inviting broadcasters, investors and anyone involved in content buying to see what we have,” said Ms Kariuki.

The conference aims at distributing the content and making Kenya a winning creation content hub.
