Former KQ director sues for wrongful termination

Former Kenya Airways Finance Director Alex Mbugua has sued the national carrier for wrongful termination.

In an application at the Labor Relations Court, Mbugua is seeking to be reinstated to his position, arguing that the airline did not follow the right procedure while terminating his employment.

The Labor Relations Court has issued a temporary injunction, prohibiting KQ from advertising, recruiting or carrying out interviews for the position.

Kenya Airways’ board announced in January that the finance director, who had been with the airline for eight years, had resigned, with Dick Murianiki taking over in an acting capacity.

Kenya Airways announced it had hired Deloitte Consulting to carry out a forensic audit of the airline’s financial performance over the last six years.

The audit is expected to unearth the financing decisions made during the implementation of the ill-fated expansion plan dubbed ‘Project Mawingu’.

The audit will seek to unearth whether there were missteps taken while Mbugua was the head of finance.
