Google optimizes job searches in Kenya

Kenyans looking up job opportunities on the Google search engine can now look forward to a more enhanced search experience following Google’s optimization of its job searching tool.

The new job search tool comes in the wake of rising concerns over the high unemployment rate amongst the youth in Kenya most of whom use Google to discover potential job opportunities.

The new tool will offer a more immersive experience enabling users to quickly and easily find opportunities best suited for them.

Google Kenya country manager Charles Murito said that the new job search experience focuses at surfacing the most relevant jobs for users.

“The new job search experience by Google is focused at being able to surface the most relevant jobs for job seekers across the country, so that they can be able to find that they are looking for”, Mr Murito said.

Kenya has in the last decade seen tremendous growth in internet connectivity enabling job seekers to result to the internet for potential recruitment into jobs.

Mr Murito said that Google is therefore tapping into Kenya’s capacity online in delivering a better job search experience to job-seekers in Kenya.

“The ability to be able to access the internet through mobile phones has made a lot more accessible and the fact that you can be able to surface different jobs, we wanted to use Google’s search algorithms to be able to surface those jobs in an easy efficient manner”, he said.

Google will partner with Kenya’s top job-listing websites Brighter Monday and Fuzu amongst others in the effort to link job seekers with their potential employees.

The job search launch is part of Google broader commitment to improve economic opportunities on the continent through its technologies in partnership with the employment industry.

Google has been vital in supporting growth via tech start-ups in Africa.

Last year, Google began a Launchpad program offering up to $3 million in equity-free funding, mentorship, working space and access to expert advisers.
