Inflation eases to 4.73pc in November

The country’s inflation rate has dropped to 4.73 percent in November as food prices continue to drop.

This is the first time inflation has been below 5 percent since February 2013 when it stood at 4.45 percent.

Inflation has over the last couple of months been easing falling from 5.72 percent in October.

Data released by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) shows that food and non alcoholic beverages index fell by 1.33 percent as food prices continued to ease following the onset of the short rains.

Food accounts for 36 percent of the goods used to calculate inflation.

However, the cost of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels increased by one point seven four percent.

The Central Bank of Kenya retained the benchmark lending at 10 percent citing no immediate danger from inflationary pressure which has been declining.
