Isiolo Airport set to turn regions fortunes

The Northern Tourist Circuit will reap huge returns once the Isiolo International Airport is officially opened later in the year.

This was said by Deputy President William Ruto at Isiolo stadium after touring Isiolo Airport to assess the ongoing construction works.

Ruto said that the airport will enable residents and Kenyans in general to take advantage of the new trade pact that would create a common market for more than 630 million people in the COMESA-EAC-SADC member countries.

The DP added that the project was part of the Lamu Port Southern Sudan Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) economic and transport corridor that stretches from the Lamu port to South Sudan and Ethiopia which once operational will make the region more accessible.

He noted that the government would continue to improve the business environment, boost security, improve infrastructure and reduce the cost of electricity in the region.

The DP further stated that the airport was expected to facilitate transport with the rest of the Horn of Africa given its strategic location, adding that the region will be opened up for tourism and business activities among other development projects.

Ruto pointed out that the construction of the airport would be a great opportunity for young people to make use of the tremendous economic developments taking place in the continent by engaging in business.

He further noted that the Sh300 million abattoir would facilitate value addition of the livestock products.

On security, Ruto stressed the need for residents in the region to help the government tame terrorism and radicalisation of youths, further urging the youth, women and persons with disabilities to utilize special programmes initiated for them by the government.

He was accompanied by  Governor Godana Doyo and his Deputy Haasan Gulled, MPs Jimmy Angwenyi (Kitutu Chache North), Dennis Waweru (Dagoreti South) Janet Nangabo (Trans Nzoia), David Pkosing (Pokot South), Rachel Shebesh (Nairobi), Mary Emase (Teso South), Bonface Otsiula (Bumula) and John Munuve (Mwingi North) Abdul Rahim Dawood, Stephen Ngare (Ndia), Mutahi Kimaru (Laikipia East), Tiya Galgalo (Isiolo), Daniel Nanok, Fatuma Dullo (nominated) Mohammed Adan (Mandera) Banticha Abdullahi (Isiolo South) and Joseph Samal (Isiolo North).
