Japanese companies hunt for business in Africa

The 6th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD VI) will see at least  75 companies from Japan chase after business ties with African countries.

Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said that Japan is committed to introducing high level technology to Africa and promote agriculture of production since industrialization is key to economic growth.

“Japanese companies are passionate and have a strong interest towards the growth of Africa and Japan contributes to the development of Africa through joint efforts between the government and the private sector,” Prime Minister Abe said during a joint briefing with President Uhuru Kenyatta at Statehouse.

President Kenyatta said Africa is yet to achieve its full potential and is looking forward to practical proposals that will strengthen ties between Kenya, Japan and Africa as a whole.

“Delegates will exchange their views in growth by diversification and industrialization we know that most nations which escape the grip of poverty do so by industrializing,” President Kenyatta said.

TICAD VI is expected to inject Sh12 billion to the economy and review progress on the key drivers of economic growth.

The conference will witness the signing of new protocols and trade agreements solidifying the country’s credential as a hub for international forums.

The summit will also focus on resilience in the health sector, inclusion and stability for prosperity.

4,000 Japanese delegates and leaders from over 35 African countries are expected to grace the event that begins officially on Saturday at the Kenyatta International Convention Center.
