Kenya Airways boss under pressure to leave before tenure ends

Kenya Airways boss Sebastian Mikosz is under pressure from the workers union to leave the airline even before his time lapses.

This after his announcement on May 24 that he plans to exit by the end of the year.

“Employees have no faith in Mikosz….he is the source of anxiety and negative energy in the airline with employees not knowing what to expect,” said Moss Ndiema, Secretary General for the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU).

According to Ndiema, the CEO’s continued stay at the airline might spell trouble for the national carrier.

“We don’t mean to talk tough but if he doesn’t exit the airline we might be forced to take a hard stance,” he added.

KAWU wants the government and the KQ board to advertise the post and have a transparent hiring process.

The union is calling for the appointment of a Kenyan to take over at the helm of the national carrier.

They are adamant that a Kenyan who has the interest of the country and airline at heart is best suited for the job.

Kenya Airways had proposed to take over operations of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in an attempt to turn around its fortunes before parliament shot down the proposal.

The MPs said the ailing airline would be better off under the supervision of the national government .
