Kenya Airways (KQ) has signed a codeshare agreement with Hong Kong Airlines to boost flight frequency into Asia.

Under the code share deal, Kenya Airways will be able to sell tickets on the Bangkok- Hong Kong route, run by Hong Kong Airlines, in a bid to improve connectivity.

Kenya Airways currently operates three flights to Hong Kong a week, but the new deal will scale up operations to daily flights.

The agreement will see Hong Kong Airlines load Kenya Airways flight code on the Asian carriers’ seven daily flights between Hong Kong and Bangkok.

The move is targeted at business travelers who ply the route.

A codeshare deal enables airlines, such as KQ, to sell tickets on a route they may not operate entirely using a different airline, as if the tickets were their own.

Kenya Airways Group Managing Director Mbuvi Ngunze says the partnership will enable customers of both carriers to take maximum benefit of flexibility on each others network.

“This partnership will enable us and Hong Kong Airlines to offer our customers seamless connection, especially for our passengers in the region who mainly travel to these Asian cities for business. Our guests will now be able to enjoy daily flights between Hong Kong and Nairobi up from the current three weekly flights,” Mr Mbuvi said.

Currently Kenya Airways flies daily to Bangkok with only three onward flights to Hong Kong per week.

The codeshare will provide new growth opportunities for both airlines’ to work together to improve flight schedules options and connectivity.

Hong Kong Airlines Chief Commercial Officer Li Dianchun said passengers would also be able to enjoy seamless onward connection into the Far East Asia and Oceania region through this agreement.

“We look forward to serving passengers from Kenya Airways on board with our Skytrax 4star quality service,” Mr Dianchun said.
