Kenya Power in Ksh.2B plan to reduce power outages

Kenya Power has announced plans to reduced scheduled power outages.

Kenya Power MD Jared Othieno said customers have for a long time been demanding stable and reliable power supply.

The number of planned shutdowns will significantly reduce following today’s launch as we will deploy more live line maintenance equipment and manpower to major towns and other areas where the network is highly concentrated across the country,” he said on Monday.

He note that the project is in partnership with the World Bank that has provided Ksh. 2 billion for staff training and purchase of equipment.

Prior to the launch, KPLC said a pilot program saw 70 staff trained on how to maintain live power lines.

”Since commencement of the live line program, the number of planned shutdowns have reduced by approximately 40 per cent,” a statement from the parastatal reads.

The company estimates that full implementation of the program will further reduce power outages often scheduled to allow maintenance.
