Kenya Power MD Bernard Ngugi quits, Rosemary Oduor appointed in acting capacity

Bernard Ngugi has resigned from his post as the Managing Director of Kenya Power barely two years after taking on the hot seat.

Citizen Digital could not immediately establish the reasons for the haste exit as the utility company picked Rosemary Oduor as its new acting Managing Director.

The new Acting chief was previously serving as the firm’s General Manager in charge of commercial services and sales.

Ngugi was picked as Kenya Power’s Chief Executive in October 2019 replacing the then acting Jared Othieno.

Prior to his appointment, Ngugi had been serving Kenya Power as its General Manager in charge of supply chain.

He leaves the firm at a time it is facing increased scrutiny following a poor run of financial results culminating in a rare full year loss for the year ended June 2020.

At the same time Kenya Power is the subject of ongoing parastatal reforms spearheaded by a technical committee which includes the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The utility firm now lacks a substantive Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and a finance chief as it heads into the expected operational review.

On Tuesday, the utility company begun a hunt for a new finance chief.

The board of Kenya Power is expected to subsequently begin another hunt for its top executive post.
