Kenya Power token system to undergo maintenance

Close to 4.5 million Kenya Power customers will see an interruption to their pre-pay services for the better part of Tuesday and Wednesday with the electricity distributor announcing plans to run a routine maintenance on the pre-pay systems to better service delivery.

Kenya Power has attributed the expected interruption to tremendous growth in their pre-pay customer base down from 268,569 in 2013 prompting a need for constant maintenance to enhance efficiency.

The exercise is expected to cover the period stretching between 10:00 pm on Tuesday 3rd July and 10:00 am on Wednesday 4th July and will affect all pre-pay services including the purchase of electricity tokens.

The utility firm has urged customers to purchase electricity tokens in advance to avoid unnecessary disruption.

The company had earlier in April carried out an upgrade to its Information Technology (IT) platform in a bid to shorten its processing time for the remittance of tokens to subscribers.

Kenya Power IT general manager Samuel Ndiragu said the system upgrade will go into improving the firm’s quality delivery to consumers.

“We are constantly seeking ways to deliver speedy and quality services to our customers. Most of our clients are on prepaid metering and as such it is critical that we upgrade and maintain our IT platform that supports purchase of electricity tokens,” Mr Ndiragu said.

The maintenance will however not affect post paid customers.

“The maintenance is expected to further support the outcome of the system upgrade by availing faster and efficient services,” he added.
