Kenya Railways introduces Kahawa commuter train service

Kenya Railways has announced the introduction of a new commuter train service that will ply the Kahawa route.

This is a move by the government to de-congest Nairobi roads and improve commuter travel.

Through a public notice, Kenya Railways announced that the new commuter service will commence on April 16.

“As part of the ongoing efforts by the government to de-congest the Nairobi CBD, Kenya Railways is introducing a new commuter train service to ply the Kahawa route. This service will commence on April 16th, 2018,” Kenya Railways said on a post on its official Twitter page.

The new route adds to the Ruiru, Syokimau and and Embakasi routes.

In addition to the new commuter train service, the government also notified the public of the re-adjustment of their timings of the Kikuyu route.

The train will now depart Kikuyu station at 6am and not 6.10am as previously scheduled.

The government is looking at improving the public transport system and last week began marking dedicated lanes for the bus rapid transport system.

The move will see deployment of high capacity buses to ease commuter transport.
