Kenya to showcase tourism products at ITB expo

In a move aimed at showcasing Kenya’s tourism product, Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) in collaboration with 42 local hoteliers and agents will lead a delegation to the ITB Expo in Berlin, Germany.

The 3-day tourism fair bringing together over 100,000 exhibitors from 180 countries will provide Kenya with an opportunity to network with top travel agents as Kenya looks to get its share of the Europe tourism and travel market.

KTB Chief Executive Officer Dr Betty Radier said the board is intensifying marketing efforts to attract more diverse groups of Germans looking for longer stays in the country.

“The German market still remains one of our key source markets. We are intensifying our marketing efforts to attract the youth, extended families as well as honeymooners looking for longer stays and more travel experiences in Kenya,” Dr Radier said.

The tourism chief further went on to call for the diversification in the composition of the various demographics.

“We’ll continue to embrace the needs of the changing audiences as precipitated by the different age bands of tourists from all our key source markets to take the tourism sector’s performance to higher levels,” she added.

Europe remains the leading source market for Kenya at 36 percent while Germany is ranked at the 6th and one of the most resilient source markets for Kenya.

The ITB Expo is being held in the backdrop of a much improved tourism sector in the country following a 9.8pc growth in international arrivals across 2017.

This is in spite of a deteriorated tourism environment that involved a lengthy electioneering period.
