KQ to resume flights to Rome in June

National carrier Kenya Airways (KQ) has announced the return of flights to Italy’s Capital Rome following a near one year hiatus triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic.

KQ says it will resume the direct flights from June 6 2021 with two weekly flights on Wednesdays and Sundays.

The first flight out of Nairobi to Rome will depart on June 6 with return flights will fall on Sundays.

“We are delighted to resume weekly flights to Rome and will continue to maintain an expanding schedule to various destinations across our network as countries ease travel restrictions. Our code-share partnership with Alitalia, offers our customers excellent connections in Rome to rest of Italy, Europe, and USA and in Nairobi to the rest of Africa including Vanilla Islands. We continue to maintain the highest safety measures before boarding and on board our aircraft.” said Julius Thairu, Chief Customer and Commercial Officer.

The return of the flights will at the same time mark the resumption of KQ’s code-share partnership with Alitalia which offers extended passenger connections for both carriers beyond the Nairobi and Rome hubs.

The Rome flights has been suspended since Kenya Airways suspension of all international flights on March 25 last year following disruptions occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kenya Airways has been working to resume passenger flights on its international network even as it continues to fly through turbulence in re surging COVID-19 infections in Europe.

The return of the Italian flights will for instance be on the backdrop of the return of flights to France and Netherlands next month after their suspension across February.

Earlier this week, KQ unveiled its first repurposed Boeing 787 Dreamliner for exclusive cargo use as it now leverages freight to cover for the shortfall in passenger operations.
