Maize, wheat flour prices to remain the same, millers say

Maize and wheat flour shelf prices will remain the same despite the recent fuel levy hike, the Cereal Millers Association Chairman Mohamed Islam has said.

Private millers in several parts of the country had already raised maize and wheat flour prices citing increased operational costs.

Parliament recently adopted the Finance Act 2018 that introduced Value Added Tax of 8percent on petroleum products.

This followed the proposal by President Uhuru Kenyatta to halve the initial 16percent VAT.

Speaking on Tuesday during a Press briefing, Mr. Islam also announced that Kenya will be hosting an international millers’ conference next month.

“Kenya’s capital is hosting the international forum that will host more than 100 exhibiting companies from Middle East, Africa, Europe, North America, Australia and Asia representing 50 countries. More than 600 delegates are expected to participate,” he said.
