Motorola scales up digital portfolio

The country’s growing digital and tech space continues to attract more international companies and investors as they convert their analog devices to adapt to the thriving digital arena.

Laurent Tribout, Director of Sales Channels for Motorola Solutions Africa, termed Kenya as a lucrative market for digital devices terming it the gateway to Africa in terms of tech growth, a move away from the previous traditional South African market.

Tribout was speaking during the introduction of Motorola Solutions’ new digital radio devices as the American data communications and telecommunications equipment provider seeks to dominate the Kenyan and African markets as a whole in the two-way radio sector.

“In an increasingly competitive market, building a relationship with the right vendor isn’t just important, it’s everything. Partner-Empower is Motorola Solutions’ global partner reseller program that supports sales and growth of local partners around the world.” Tribout said on the firm’s local expansion plans.

The Motorola Solutions Africa Sales Channels Director also called on the Kenya government to ensure there are efficient quality control mechanisms to curb the importation of fake gadgets and products that result in unfair competition between counterfeit and genuine ones and pose a risk to the life of users.

“We don’t compromise on security, we make sure our products are safe. Fake products are coming out of Asia and we have seen fake radios explode in mines or during operations. We condemn all these actions and urge potential clients to buy two-way radio systems from our authorized partners.” He added.
He says Motorola’s latest MOTOTRBO digital radios use Wi-Fi connectivity for software updates, and has longer battery life, a significant improvement from its previous analogue devices.

According to the firm headquartered in Illinois, USA, only 15 partners are authorized to sell their products in the country,

“We seek to dominate the Kenyan market with our two-way radio systems in the long term. We currently control more than 60 percent of the local market share, mainly in the security sector,” opined Nicolas Coussinoux, the Senior Regional Sales Manager, Motorola Solutions Africa

Motorola is listed at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and formerly linked with the manufacture of mobile phones through its predecessor Motorola Inc, which was sold off.
