Mumias CEO fights off termination

Drama and confusion reigned at Mumias Sugar on Monday as suspended chief executive officer Nashon Aseka made a rather unsuccessful return to work.

Mr Aseka who was suspended in June by the board for ‘suspicious’ transactions, had obtained a court order stopping further disciplinary action by the board pending a ruling by the Employment and Labour Relations court in Kisumu.

The CEO has been fighting his suspension, terming it un-procedural after getting wind the board planned to terminate his contract.

According to Mr Aseka, he is yet to receive a termination letter from the board and is reading mischief into the manner the investigation on the dubious transactions is being carried out.

“I started hearing rumors that there is a letter for termination. Up to this minute I have not been served with the letter and I am being told it’s in the post office,” Mr Aseka said.

The CEO had reported to work at 7am but was forcefully take out of the premises shortly after 10am.

Mr Aseka said the court order he had obtained called for a meeting between him and the board to give further details to the investigation.

“I can say that it is a letter done in bad faith because it is against the spirit of the initial order hat wanted the two parties to meet on 10^th of July,” he said.

Mumias Sugar chairman Kennedy Ngumbau in June said head of agriculture services Patrick Chebosi would serve in an acting capacity.
