Mumias Sugar appoints new boss

Mumias Sugar Company has now appointed Errol Johnston as its new Chief Executive Officer.

In a statement to newsrooms, Mumias Sugar Company’s Chairman, Dan Ameyo has announced that Johnston will take over the helm of the beleaguered sugar miller on the first of August upon the expiry of the contract of the company’s current CEO, Coutts Otolo.

Johnston has extensive experience in the global sugar industry and previously served as Mumias Sugar Company’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer between 1998 and 2001.

His appointment comes nearly a month after the government gave the company one billion shillings to pay off some of its debts to its farmers and creditors.

Mumias Sugar Company plans to begin making payments to its farmers from today while verifying the accounts of its contracted cane farmers.
