OLX to close Kenyan office by March

Online re-seller OLX is set to close its Kenyan officer as the parent company Naspers, consolidates its operations across Africa.

The restructuring will also affect operations in Nigeria with the firm’s employees set to suffer from the closure.

OLX country manager Peter Ndiangui did not give much detail as to the factors targeting the Kenya and Nigeria operations adding that the decision had been arrived at re looking operations in the two markets.

OLX Kenya has a total of thirty one employees.

The exercise will be completed effectively by end of March this year.

“We made a difficult but important decision in Kenya and Nigeria to consolidate our operations between some of our offices internationally,” Mr Ndiangui said.

OLX operates across 40 different countries.

Mr Ndiangui however said the OLX site and services will remain available to users’ looking to buy and sell wares.

“We remain committed to the millions of Kenyans who use our platform to buy and sell every month. We continue to be focused on constantly innovating to make sure that OLX remains the top classifieds platform Kenya,” he said.

In 2016, OLX introduced paid up advertisements on its site to push a seller’s classifieds higher on the search list to generate revenue.

OLX had also begun a brokerage service to help push car sales on its site.
